Calls for Submissions

Submission Guidelines

GUMA' Remetaw seeks  to promote the remarkable voices and culture of our islands.

Our submission period begins January 1st through April 31st. Submissions outside of this time period may be considered for subsequent issues, but artists are encouraged to simply resubmit work once a new submission period starts.

We are interested in quality art of The Marianas, including but not limited to: indigenous artists, artists residing in the Marianas, and artists whose work concentrates on Pacific Island themes, like place, voice, language, and culture. Please see the specified genre listings and details below for further information. Though we wish to concentrate on these aspects unique to our archipelago, we welcome all submissions.

Simultaneous submissions are acceptable; we ask that you notify us as soon your work is accepted elsewhere at PROAPublications@marianas.edu. Previously published work may also be considered on a case-by-case basis with prior notification through the submission form below. Allow at least 3 months for a decision on submissions, unless otherwise specified, and kindly wait for a decision before considering us to review future work.

Issue 1: Mesngun

Mesngun in Chamorro means "resilient, tolerant, persevering." We and our islands have been through so much in the past decade: super typhoons, ever changing landscape from the climate crisis to economic insecurity—even a pandemic: this new "normal." In spite of all of these tempestuous events, we still stand resilient; hence our inaugural issue's theme.

Don't feel this serves as a means to limit submissions. Even if you think your work isn't related to this particular theme directly, we suggest you submit anyway; we may find a way to tie it into the journal or communicate a desire to publish it in the future. Thank you always for considering PROA Publications and GUMA' Remetaw to highlight your work!
